I've been seeing Dr. Zarella now for several years and always have a great visit. He listens, gives ample of time to be seen, and trouble shoots as needed. I recently went to another corporate chain for my yearly exam hoping to save travel time and it was a horrible experience in client care and competency. I immediately returned to Dr. Zarella and got my concerns addressed and prescription updated. Highly recommend! I don't know where the negative reviews citing his approach - I find him to be warm, approachable, and a good listener. Perhaps he should set up a hot cocoa corner with Olaf for anyone needing warm hugs during their optometry appts; otherwise, he's there to do his job competently. I think it's a great and efficient office.

Horizon Family Eyecare is the best! I searched for years to find an eye doctor who would engage seriously with my specific issues and concerns and am so grateful to have found exactly that in Doctor Zarella. His exams are thorough and he never skims over a concern or question. This is also a truly family friendly practice — when my daughter was born they texted to set up appointments so a ringing phone wouldn’t wake the baby, and they gave us both the warmest welcome when I brought her with me to an appointment. They have been flexible and accommodating with scheduling and their friendly staff are always helpful over the phone as well. This practice is an authentically run, loving business and I am grateful it is here in Charlottesville!

I highly recommend Horizon Family Eye Care. The doctors and staff are knowledgeable, capable, warm, and pleasant. We recently moved and I needed to find a new eye doctor. The doctors take the time to answer questions, address concerns, and constructively solve problems. I already feel as though I can trust them to care for my family's eye health.

The 4 times I've visited, Dr. Z and his team were superb. Also, when I needed urgent help due to an eye infection, they got me in quickly. I'm a curious person and he seemed happy to answer all of my many questions. I never felt rushed by him or his team. He is also extremely straightforward, which I appreciate very much. When I repeated something back to him the way I understood it, and it was wrong, he told me I was wrong and explained it again a different way. Also, I genuinely enjoy Dr. Z's dry sense of humor. I'd recommend him to anyone.
